BAC’s Story

More than 30 years of ministry

The Bible Application Class (BAC) was founded in Raleigh, North Carolina in January 1987 by Cheryl Hall who taught a small group of women hungry to apply to Word of God. Cheryl led the group in a verse-by-verse study of the Book of Mark with an emphasis on application for daily living. A couple of years later, men joined the women to study each week, always studying a complete book of the Bible verse-by-verse in the context of God’s great story in the Bible. As the class continued to grow, BAC incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit ministry in 1994.

In the early 2000s, BAC added a Tuesday morning class for women and children. Faithful servants love and teach the children the Word of God every Tuesday morning while the women study with one another. The Children’s Program uses original teaching materials and, as often as possible and appropriate, teaches the children the same scripture the women’s class is studying.

When Cheryl joined the Lord in heaven in 2012, her husband Jerry took over the administrative responsibilities of the class, and her oldest son Eric delivered the lectures on Monday nights and Tuesday mornings. In 2017, God raised up a woman, Connie West, to lead the Tuesday class. For a few years, Eric shared a message with the class on Monday nights, and Connie shared on Tuesday mornings. In 2020, Connie began teaching both classes, and Eric remains a member of the BAC Board and participates in the Monday night class.

Since its inception, BAC has been guided by a Board of Directors who prayerfully discern God’s call for the ministry, oversee class administration, and hold teachers accountable to God’s Word. We are grateful to God for Emmanuel Baptist Church allowing us to use the facilities at 2100 Noble Road in Raleigh. However, we emphasize that BAC is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit ministry and does not associate with any one denomination.

A New Chapter for BAC

Our original logo used the phrase “put a heart around it!” which is something Cheryl often said in her lectures to encourage class members to put a heart around important verses with particular application for the day’s lesson. Many class members have hearts around verses throughout their bibles!

In 2020, we sought out a new logo to demonstrate what we do, and we landed on a logo with a sprout growing out of a Bible. We believe the Bible is how God reveals Himself to us. Through verse-by-verse teaching, we help people grow in their understanding and application of scripture so that ultimately, they can know God more and be better equipped to live lives that bear fruit for the sake of the kingdom.
